"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been removed therefrom and no
bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity
as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

An Update from Mark Morton - The "Gravestone Guardian" about His Work at the "Butcher Cemetery" in Belmont County, Ohio

Mark Morton of "Gravestone Guardians of Ohio" reports that he is working on reparing the markers and fence at the "Butcher Cemetery" located in Belmont County, Ohio.

Check out the Facebook Page of "The Gravestone Guardians of Ohio" and give it a "Like"!!

I'm sure you'll enjoy viewing his new photographs and reading the accompanying descriptions as Mark embarks on his new cemetery conservation project.

Currently, only 4 interments are listed for the Butcher Cemetery on "Find A Grave."

I'm sure Mark will discover additional gravesites and markers after he completes his work at this Belmont County cemetery -- one of Ohio's earliest burial grounds.
