Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

"Headstone Cleaning Project Description" from the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Click on title to read a report from the website of the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (or click on the department name here) regarding a headstone cleaning project that began in 2004 at five VA cemeteries.

It is interesting to read the results of the headstone cleaning project which includes an update report completed in January of 2010.

I encourage anyone who is embarking on cleaning headstones to please read as much as you can from reliable internet sources to ensure you are not doing more harm than good to a marker, monument or any gravestone.

Listed below are, in my opinion, among the most respected resources for information on the subject of gravestone preservation:
