Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Update - Old Burying Ground July 8, 2015 Work Session, Greenfield Historical Society

Notes from Scott:
"It got too muddy to keep going, or we would have done a lot more. We did straighten up a total of ten stones, I think.

The three in the picture here were pretty tough.

The bases sit on big ledgers which are about three foot wide and seven long, and about 8" thick.

I'll have to go back and clean up the area around them a little better, and add some fill dirt in a few places. All things we'd have done today, just too wet.

We were really moving along well when we had to stop. There aren't many stones left to work on in the section we allocated for 2015. If we have another two sessions, we'll be working on things I did not expect to touch until next year."
