Among the recipients is the Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum in Springfield - Clark County, Ohio.

"Join us in Wade Memorial Chapel to celebrate the release of the new coffee table book, "This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries and Burial Grounds", which includes 18 photographs of Lake View Cemetery as well as cemetery images from all 88 of Ohio’s counties. 

The book’s co-photographer, Ian Adams, whose stunning images were assembled into Lake View Cemetery’s 2024 wall calendar, will lead a slide presentation, followed by a book signing and an evening stroll highlighting area of Wade Pond that were featured in the book.

This presentation will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a ½ mile walk. Books will be available for purchase the day of the event with cash or credit card."

"Monument Makeover: A look inside Lake View Cemetery's James A. Garfield Memorial" was posted online on September 28, 2020.

If you are familiar with the James A. Garfield Memorial at the Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, then you know for a number of years the towering statuesque structure looked sadly dark and dirty, certainly not befitting to properly pay tribute to a past United States President and First Lady. 

It required extensive restorative measures on its entire exterior to preserve it for the future.  It would take some time to accomplish, but it had to be done, and so it was and now we get to see it!   

Below are some of my photographs of the Garfield Memorial's exterior taken during a visit to Lake View Cemetery on October 13, 2017.  A new visit is definitely in order soon!:  

While the interior of the Garfield Memorial is not open, we can look forward to touring it in March, 2021 according to the report.

Happy Memorial Day 2019 - Remembering America's Fallen Heros and their sarifices -- We owe them so much.

Today is one of remembering, reflecting, and offering our deepest respect and gratitude to all those who so selflessly sacrificed their lives so that all of us can enjoy the freedoms we have as Americans.  One way we often choose to honor our veterans is to visit a cemetery; perhaps more than one on this day -- a day that is for them. 

Cemeteries are the final resting places for countless special heroes who devoted a portion of their lives, for however long, in service to us in ways that go beyond measure; that have kept us free and safe.

So it is that our welled-up tears fall quickly, even before our softly whispered thank-yous, as we kneel down and touch their gravestones praying they hear us.  Some may have been members of our own families, cherished friends, our kindly neighbors, or school chums who were taken from us too young.  We express our appreciation to them; understanding it could never be enough.  

May they all rest in eternal peace with the blessed assurance that we have not forgotten them; not now, not ever.

Inducted 1970

"Player: Blair Nunamaker won his first World Championship in 1929, pitching 69.5% ringers, and losing just one game. He held the title until his third place finish in 1933, behind C.C. Davis and Ted Allen. Blair placed 11th in the 1923 World Tournament, 7th in 1925, 4th in 1926, and 3rd in 1927 and 1928.

He was Ohio State Champion four straight years from 1933 through 1936. During his reign as champion, Blair traveled coast to coast giving exhibition and playing in open tournaments and was a popular, well liked individual who did much to stimulate interest in the game. Blair died in June of 1944 in Florida after a lengthy illness of TB."

Blair Nunamaker Died in Cleveland
"Blair E. Nunamaker, 38, former world champion horseshoe pitcher, died at City Hospital Cleveland, June 30 after a prolonged illness. 

Blair spent much of his boyhood in Mantua and later attended school in Cleveland where he became interested in athletics at East High. 

 After participating in Cleveland sporting events, Mr. Nunamaker aroused national interest in 1929 when he defeated Champion Frank Jackson of Iowa in the elimination contests for the world championship horseshoe tournament at St. Petersburg Fla. 

Mr. Nunamaker is survived by his mother, Mrs. Belle Nunamaker, with whom he lived at 1238 Hayden Avenue, East Cleveland. Funeral services were held at Abel's Funeral Home, 15317 Euclid Ave., East Cleveland.

Blair E. Nunamaker, whose ability repeatedly to loop a horseshoe over an iron peg at a distance of 40 feet made him the world's champion horseshoe pitcher, died yesterday at City Hospital. The former horseshoe champion was only 38 at the time of his death and had been ill a long time. 

Mr. Nunamaker was born in Mantua, O., and as a child was brought to Cleveland by his family. He attended grade school and East High School here and was highly successful in athletics. 

Cleveland has won renown through the accomplishments of many of her sons but it remained for the tall and loose-muscled East High School youth to bring the city national repute as a horseshoe pitching champion's home town. 

In 1929 Mr. Nunamaker entered the world's championship tournament at St. Petersburg, Fla., and threw enough ringers to amaze a crowd of veteran horseshoe fans and take the crown of Charles Davis of Columbus. 

Mr. Nunamaker lived at 1238 Hayden Ave., East Cleveland, with his mother, Mrs. Belle Nunamaker, who survives him. Services will be conducted at 3 tomorrow afternoon at the Abel Funeral Home, 15317 Euclid Ave., East Cleveland."

Lakeview Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio - Headstone Dedication Ceremony at 10:30a.m. today, April 10, 2010, for Charles Pinkney, minor-leaguer from Cleveland

There will be a headstone dedication at 10:30a.m. this morning for Charles Pinkney who was killed by a pitch on September 14, 1909.  He was 21 at the time of his death.  He played second base for the Dayton Veterans of the Class B Central League, as stated in the article. 

The on-line story includes 1909 photos of Pinkney and the original announcement of his death.   

Charles Pinkney is buried in Section 25, Lot 138 at Lake View Cemetery. 

The ceremonies are open to the public and are free.
