Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Sharing a link to a CNN story about neglected gravesites

Click on title to read a wonderful and well-written story currently featured on CNN.com about neglected gravesites in Georgia.

The scene could be of almost any neglected and almost forgotten burial ground -- including so many in Ohio that appear as this one does.

Fortunately, more and more people are striving to record burial information in various ways and working with local residents to clean up and maintain their ancestral burygrounds to be more presentable and dignified.

Too much has already been lost, which tells us more has to be done so what is left will not be lost also.

Spotlighting Melissa Ammons buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain, (Lorain County) Ohio

Click on the title to link to Melissa Ammons' memorial on Find A Grave.
I have walked Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain quite a lot since my parents, grandparents, and an aunt and uncle are buried there.
I don't think I have seen any homemade stones at Elmwood Cemetery before.
Melissa certainly passed away at a young age; before turning 36.
It is nice that Pam and Heather had the stone made for Melissa so she would not be buried in an unmarked grave.
