This is a collection of the W.P.A. Cemetery Plat Maps for Pike County, Ohio. The maps exist at the Pike County Map office. 

The Pike County Recorder has the individual veteran's grave registration cards that are arranged alphabetically for each cemetery.  

The townships of Pike County are.:

This Pike County W.P.A. Cemetery Map collection consists of maps that essentially are original drawings created early in the project with limited handwritten information in the Legend Box that is positioned at the bottom of a map page in the lower right-hand corner.  The map pages are numbered.

Unfortunately, only one of these map pages include the names of any of the veterans who were buried at any of the cemeteries in Pike County.

However, many of the maps do show the normal coffin-like symbols in the plot where a veteran was buried.

Unlike the W.P.A .Cemetery Plat Map pages in other counties, there is only one instance with a map page having mixed townships for the cemeteries.  

Otherwise, it is uniform throughout with only one township name for any number of cemeteries on a page.  

Below is the image of Page 1 that has one cemetery in Camp Creek Township and the remainder of the cemeteries are located in Sunfish Township.:

Pike County is a rural county in Southern Ohio and thus there are a great number of smaller size cemeteries that are located in it. Most cemeteries are on county or township roadways.

A Concerned and Caring Teenager Sets a Great Example when He Sets Out to Restore an Abandoned Family Graveyard

Sharing this heartwarming story of Jamison Neal, a junior at Piketon High School, in Pike County, Ohio.  Along with his father, Steve, Jamison took on the project of clearing away the tall overgrowth that had overtaken the gravestones at a small family cemetery known as the Chenoweth Cemetery.

I'm sure we'll be hearing more good news about this once forgotten cemetery because of the labor of love work Jamison and his father Steve did that restored respect and preserved it.

The Chenoweth Cemetery is listed on Find A Grave with 11 interments.

There is also one outstanding gravestone photo request for an infant named, John B. Chenoweth, who was born on September 25, 1836 and who died January 10, 1837.  

If his grave marker is found and photographed, the picture can be added to his "Find A Grave Memorial." 

Cynthiana Cemetery - Pike County, Ohio - Remembering William Townsend

Whenever possible, when transcribing the name, birth and/or death date, and age inscribed on a tombstone, also take a couple of extra moments to transcribe any epitaph chisled on it. 

Normally, epitaphs are found on the lower portion of the stone written in small, cursive style etching.  

Epitaphs convey the culture of the times prevalent during the last days of the deceased's life. 

A wonderful book entitled:  "Tombstones of Your Ancestors" by Louis S. Schafer, published by Heritage Books, Inc., is a twelve chapter book that covers the broad range of information regaring tombstone epitaphs.  It offers the reader educational yet fascinating facts citing many examples of epitaphs spanning the serious and whimsical about the diseased.  Some also reveal much about the surviving loved ones.
