Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Reporting an Endangered Cemetery -- Baptist (AKA Old Baptist) Cemetery in Sugar Creek Township, Stark County, Ohio

"This cemetery has not been used since before 1900. It is grown up with weeds but is fenced off. Inscriptions were from BLUE, HEALD, & PAXTON CEMETERY RECORDS. (Submitted by Evelyn Jessup – June 1978)"
(May 8, 2011, fence is now gone and the cemetery is in a deplorable state – Sally Miller Hindley)

The Baptist Cemetery is also known as the Old Baptist Cemetery.  There are 21 individuals listed as interred at this cemetery on "Find A Grave."

Collins, Grant, Kilgore, Rogers and Welty are the surnames for burials at the Baptist Cemetery.
