Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Union County Ohio W.P.A. Cemetery Plat Maps have been added to the right side bar of the blog

The Union County W.P.A. Cemetery Plat Maps have been added to the right sidebar on the blog.

The listing is now shown in an alphabetic linked list to FLICKR photos for the designated Ohio counties with accessible W.P.A. Cemetery Plat Maps.

Thanking Krista Horrocks, Project Reviews Manager with the Ohio History Connection, for her assistance with the downloading and conversions of the map page images for Union County.

** Please Note, several pages in this Union County collection of W.P.A. Cemetery Plat maps contain "penciled in" writings that were added at a later date.  They appear to have been written sometime in the 1960s by unknown author(s).

Notations include.:  New names that are not on the map.  New names with burial locations unknown.

Also, many map pages do have supplementary listings of veterans names.  Some appear to have been included at the time a map was created.  In other cases, this type of a listing was handwritten by possibly the same unknown author(s).  These listings can be extensive.  The handwriting can be faint and difficult to read in some instances.  Enlargement might be required to better distinguish the names and dates.
