Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

"Headstones of well known people buried in and around Cleveland"

Sharing a link to this Cleveland.com article "Headstones of well known people buried in and around Cleveland" by David Petkiewicz; published on January 7, 2019.

This story offers a diverse sampling (because there are so many to choose from!) of the recognizably famous, and the once-famous but now obscure people whose final resting places are marked by headstones at a Cleveland area cemetery.

Among the most notable are those who found rest in peace at Lake View Cemetery.  The cemetery's identifying motto is "Grounds for Life."  Indeed a visitor to Lake View Cemetery can easily find an abundance of life within the cemetery's vast rolling grounds.  On most days there are folks taking tours (either on their own or through one offered by Lake View Cemetery), or those who enjoy finding that rare bird to watch and photograph.

Lake View Cemetery on Find A Grave lists 110,300 interments, with 588 outstanding photo requests for headstones.  So, there is another reason to visit Lake View Cemetery -- to fulfill those photo requests that are so appreciated  -- because not everyone is able to visit the cemetery themselves.
