Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Sheep Pen Cemetery in the Winter -- Photographs from Scott Andersen

I have never seen Sheep Pen Cemetery during the Winter, so these photographs below are quite special to me.

 I'm pleased to share these (unretouched) photographs that I just received from Scott Andersen who recently visited Sheep Pen Cemetery.

Sheep Pen sits silent yet serene under this light dusting of snow. As it awaits the first warm day of Spring, we can ponder how the seasons may change but our respect for those buried on hallowed grounds, like Sheep Pen, abides.

Thank you Scott!!!

My thanks to Beth Santore, creator of the well-known and popular website: Grave Addiction,
and Chapter Chairperson for the Ohio Chapter of the Association for Gravestone Studies, for announcing details for the chapter's upcoming Spring meeting.

The information below can also be found on the Ohio Chapter's Facebook Page
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It's time for our 2013 Spring Chapter Meeting!"
"Morning check-in/registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of the Somerset Courthouse located at 100 Public Square, Somerset, Ohio (at the intersection of State Route 13 and US-22). The day's events will begin at 9:30 a.m. We're planning to have lunch catered for a reasonable cost, and we'll have all the details worked out soon. Information will be posted here as soon as it's finalized.
We're also planning to have chapter t-shirts made. If you know you're interested in purchasing a t-shirt, please let me know what size and quantity. That info will help me with getting cost estimates. Like the lunch details, I'll be adding updated info about the shirts here as soon as I have it.
MORNING PROGRAM:
During the morning we will have presentations from members. If you are interested in sharing information about your gravestone research, conservation projects, etc please let me know so I can get you added to the schedule.
We'll also have exhibit and sales tables set up. If you'd like to set up a table (it's free) please let me know that as well.
LUNCH MEETING:
While eating, we'll have our meeting portion of the day to discuss cemetery-related events around Ohio as well as plans for the Fall meeting.
AFTERNOON:
Tour of several cemeteries in Northern Perry County.
**Please RSVP via facebook or e-mail if you're planning to attend.**
This will help us plan the amount of meeting materials and food to prepare.
 Also, please let me know if you're interested in presenting or setting up a table.
Since the chapter meetings are a means to increase awareness of and membership in AGS, if you have any friends who might be interested in the organization who are not yet members, please encourage them to attend!
Please feel free to contact me via e-mail, facebook, or phone if you have any questions about the meeting."
Hope to see you on May 11!
