Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

The Warren County Historical Society presents its annual Lantern Light Cemetery Tours led by its Historian, Mr. John Zimkus Friday evening
September 7 and repeating Saturday evening, September 8 at the Lebanon Cemetery on Silver Street.

The tour pays homage to noted Lebanon citizens of
the past, who were prominent, both at home and on the national scene.

The tour will visit the graves of fifteen prominent citizens where guests will meet the “spirit” of the departed. The cost of the tour is $20 per person and reservations must be purchased in advance.

Volunteers from the Glendower Historic Characters play the parts of the citizens of old.
Dressed in costume, each character will emerge from the shadows from behind his or her tombstone and speak to the guests about the character’s life in old Lebanon and beyond.

Designed to be a local history lesson, the tour also provides music and theatre as the dear departed “come to life” at the hands of their costumed
re-enactors.

The Lantern Light Cemetery Tour will thrill and educate at the same time.

The tours will begin before dark at 6:30 pm and end approximately at 8:30pm.

Guests should plan to park on Silver Street and other surrounding streets, not in the cemetery.

This event is a fund raiser for the Warren County Historical Society and all proceeds will go to benefit Glendower Historic Mansion in Lebanon.

For reservations contact the Warren County Historical Society at
513-932-1817 or email at gro.muesumshcw@shcw. Cash, check or credit cards
accepted.
