Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Tombstone photos Group on "Flickr"

I'll be the first to admit that I am not an expert on "Flickr"!
I did, however, locate some tombstone photographs for Ohio cemeteries under the "Graves, Tombs and Cemeteries" Search. I also typed in "Ohio cemeteries" in the white block to the right and pressed the "search" button for the results.
"1,474 results" are shown, per the first screen I viewed.
A sort by "relevant, recent and interesting" is available.
I also noted "discussions" as a place to "click on" and check out.
Browsing through the contributor submissions on "Flickr" just might yield a tombstone photograph you are seeking if you get the hang of it!

Ohiogravestones.org Update

The web site of "Ohiogravestones.org" is growing! It currently has over 102,000 gravestone photos posted on its site.

From the web site "Ohiogravestones.org" :

"Thank you for visiting OhioGravestones.Org.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help take and upload photos for many cemeteries across Ohio. If you have an interest in volunteering for this rewarding part-time activity please contact the state administrator."

Pittsfield, Lorain County, Ohio Blog Regarding Cemetery Restoration Volunteer News

The following information is found on the Pittsfield Township, Lorain County, Ohio Blog in 2009:

"March/April Question"
04/13/09 - To All Current and Potential Cemetery Restoration Volunteers: As the weather improves and gets warmer, I hope to continue the cemetery restoration project that we started last year. We still have considerable work to do in the East Cemetery, and then we can proceed to the South Cemetery. Last year we scheduled our work sessions for every Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. This year I would like to also hold some sessions on possibly Saturday morning, or some week day evening. This would allow those of you who work during the day to participate in the project.
Anyone who would like to help us and has a preference as to when they are available, please let me know.
Thank you, Ralph Hayes at Hayes@kellnet.com
