Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Sharing a "Youtube" video about cemetery restoration

Today, I took out a few moments to search on "YouTube" for cemetery restoration videos and found a few of them.

The video illustrates how people can work together as a group and at least clean up a cemetery's grounds and haul away debris and tall weeds that were pulled up to make it more presentable and accesible.

A cemetery that looks neglected proves it has been ignored and forgotten about for a long time.

A renewed respect for a cemetery happens as a direct result of the work put into restoring it.

Volunteers can be proud of their accomplishments that honor those who came before them.

Visitors can feel safe walking within the cemetery property.  The good condition of both grounds and gravestones shows visitors that the area is sacred and regularly taken care of in a respectful manner.

A good place to start learning correct methods of gravestone cleaning and other gravestone restoration processes is to read the "Preservation" section on the Association for Gravestone Studies website: http://www.gravestonestudies.org/preservation.htm
