Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Ted Martin sentenced to 5 years in cemetery case

Excerpted from above-referenced news story.:

"Theodore “Ted” Martin, 54, was sentenced to five years in prison in Portage County Common Pleas Court today after pleading guilty to 41 felony and misdemeanor charges related to his ownership of Grandview Memorial Park cemetery in Ravenna Township.
The prison term will run consecutive to the 5 years he is currently serving for swindling customers of his other Ohio cemetery in Delaware County and the one-year and one-day term he’s serving in federal prison for tax evasion.
Martin and his wife, Arminda, sold “pre-need” contracts including caskets, headstones and other burial merchandise to their customers, then failed to provide most of the merchandise. They also forged or faked cemetery records to cover up the alleged crimes, according to Vigluicci, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Commerce, all of whom investigated the claims. "
