As we return to partaking in more activities to celebrate this July 4th 2021 American Independence Day, we reflect on those Revolutionary War veterans who made it possible for us to enjoy the freedoms we have.
As most of us know many American Revolutionary War veterans were buried right here in Ohio.
We can turn to the Ohio History Connection which offers online links that help us better understand how Ohio became a destination for many of those veterans who chose to stay in the Buckeye State to the end of their lives and were laid to rest on its soil.
Spotlighting one of Ohio's premier early cemeteries, the Mound Cemetery in Marietta, we learn that it contains a large number of burials of American Revolutionary War officers. During our travels throughout the state, we have come to learn that Ohio's smaller and more obscure cemeteries also contain burials of those who served in the American Revolution. Hopefully, their graves are marked and American flags were put in place that denote their patriotic service to America. We thank them all for their service and sacrifices; and may they rest in eternal peace.
