The Milan Public Library hosts well-known Ohio photographer, Ian Adams, discussing his latest book.: "This Place of Silence: "Ohio's Cemeteries and Burial Grounds" - Thursday - July 11, 2024 - 6:30p.m. - 7:30p.m. at the library - Copies of the book can be purchased at the event.

"MILAN — The Milan Public Library invites history enthusiasts, photography lovers and all interested community members to an evening with photographer Ian Adams as he discusses his book “This Place of Silence: Ohio Cemeteries & Burial Grounds."

The event takes place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the library, 19 E. Church St.

"'This Place of Silence' is a collaborative photographic portrait of Ohio’s most interesting, historic and beautiful cemeteries created with fellow Ohio photographer Randall Lee Schieber and writer Robin Smith," according to an event statement.

"It includes images from more than 100 cemeteries in all 88 Ohio counties, highlighting the charming chapels, magnificent mausoleums and monuments, stately statues and graceful gravestones of Ohio’s burial grounds," it added.

Chapters cover:

• Native American and early burial grounds

• The evolution of cemeteries

• Architecture, statuary, and symbolism

• The natural environment

• Military and institutional cemeteries

• Distinctive traditions and distinctive places

Additionally, Adams will talk about Oakland Cemetery and the Cholera Cemetery in Sandusky.

People can purchase copies of his book during this event."
