Exploring Almost Forgotten Gravesites in the Great State of Ohio

Dedicated to cemetery preservation in the great state of Ohio

"A cemetery may be considered as abandoned when all or practically all of the bodies have been Removed therefrom and no bodies have been buried therein for a great many years, and the cemetery has been so long neglected as entirely to lose its identity as such, and is no longer known, recognized and respected by the public as a cemetery. 1953 OAG 2978."

Sharing Updated Information about Williams County, Ohio's WPA Cemetery Plat Maps

I learned today from Patti Rockey of the Williams County Recorder's Office that their WPA Cemetery Plat Maps are now all posted on their website!

The maps are arranged alphabetically by township name with cemetery names listed alphabetically within each township.

A real bonus for a researcher, is the additional historical information that details the entire history of the WPA program (Works Progress Administration / Works Projects Administration).

Many younger folks, in particular, may not be well versed in this important part of American history and its direct impact on those who were out of work during the long years that were known as The Great Depression.
