Finding Some Cemetery Related Gems on Ebay

Sharing my recent Ebay purchase where some wonderful cemetery-related "gems" can be found.

  In this case a cemetery deed for a lot in the Perry Cemetery located in Perry Township, Lake County, Ohio.   It was not a straight forward deed purchase either.  

The cemetery deed was for Lot No. 34 in Division 4 that was originally purchased by Rollin C. (Carlos) Hawkins for $13.00 on November 28, 1866.  He died much later on July 2, 1895.  

However, this deed was transferred on September 10, 1875 to the heirs of Joseph Quirk , who had died a few months earlier on June 26, 1875.  

Joseph Quirk's wife, Jane Quayle Quirk, had died a few days after the deed was transferred to the heirs of Joseph Quirk on September 29, 1875. 

"For the consideration of $20.00

I hereby transfer my right and title to 

the within described Cemetery Lot

to the Heirs of Joseph Quirk

Perry O. September 10, 1875

Signed by Rollin C. Hawkins"

Taking a Closer Look at the Chardon Road Cemetery in Willoughby Hills, Lake County, Ohio

"Chardon Road Cemetary – The City is responsible for its care.  It was originally a Twp. cemetery and when the city was incorporated, they took over the care for this.  The Chardon Road Cemetery is located next to Local Tavern (Orchard Drive) in Willoughby Hills.  Willoughby Hills shares zip code 44092 with Wickliffe, but the cemetery is actually located in Willoughby Hills, not Wickliffe.

The other 2 cemetaries that the City maintains are:

 Maple Grove Cemetary (next door to Maple Grove Grange)

 SOM Center Cemetary (located on the North side of I-90 westbound exit ramp).

All of these cemetaries are closed to new burials by law."

Sharing Pictures from the West Kirtland (Williams / Marble / Pleasant Valley / Chardon Road) Cemetery in Kirtland, Lake County, Ohio

Sharing photographs taken by my friend, Rick, who travels the Lake County area frequently and often stops to visit and photograph gravestones; particularly at some of the more rural cemeteries in the vicinity.  These were all taken on November 9, 2013.  Thank you, Rick, for sharing them with us.

Like so many other early Ohio cemeteries, the West Kirtland Cemetery has also been known by other names.  In the "Ohio Cemeteries 1803 -2003" book published by the Ohio Genealogical Society, K. Roger Troutman, Editor, on page 349, appears: "West Kirtland - Williams - Marble - Pleasant Valley - Chardon Road (6307) as the different cemtery's names used to identify it.  It is located on the south side of U.S. Route 6 (Chardon Road), West of Hobart Road, and East of Rookwood Drive." 

On "Find A Grave", the West Kirtland Cemetery has 107 interments listed for it.
